Twenty Iraqis were killed or found dead and two more were wounded on an extremely quiet prayer day. Meanwhile, one hostage was freed in Diwaniya. Also, two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate incidents yesterday. Fridays are the Muslim prayer day, and many journalists consider it their day off work.
An MND-Baghdad soldier was killed in a small arms attack in Baghdad yesterday. South of Baghdad yesterday, a roadside bomb killed an MND-Center soldier.
In Baghdad, two dumped bodies were found. No casualties were reported after a bombing in Mashtal. Another bomb targeted a Joint Forces convoy in Bab al-Sham; the area was cordoned off and no news of casualties was reported.
A body belonging to a civil defense policeman was discovered in al-Hayakel, Wassit province.
Three bombs were defused in Muqdadiyah.
In nearby Mansouriat Al-Muqdadiyah, three gunmen were killed and two villagers were wounded during a clash.
Diwaniya police set free a hostage and arrested four kidnappers in al-Shamiya.
Iraqi forces killed 14 suspects and detained 30 others during security operations; 99 displaced families were assisted in returning to their homes in Baghdad.
